What is a AI chat bot?

An AI chat bot is a computer program that simulates human conversation through voice commands or text chats or both and uses artificial intelligence technologies and algorithms to achieve its purpose. Chat bot, short for chatter bot, is an Artificial Intelligence feature that can be embedded and used through any major messaging applications or through website live chat systems to interact with customers or members without the need for a human intervention as it is self reliant.

1. What are chatbots and how do they work?

Chat bots are essentially a form of automated service that customers can communicate with via text or voice on different channels, e.g. website, Facebook Messenger, phone, other applications or via voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant.

Are all chatbots based on AI?

As already mentioned, we differentiate between two types of chatbots: Rule-based and AI-based chatbots.

With a rule-based chatbot, possible user queries and potential answers are defined in advance. If a question is asked that has not been previously defined, the chat bot will not be able to assist in answering the question.

In contrast to rule-based bots, chat bots based on Artificial Intelligence are able to process natural language. This is done with the help of Natural Language Understanding (NLU). AI-based chatbots are able to learn semi-automatically.
